FG Still Negotiating With Niger Delta Militants – Ibe Kachikwu

Dr. Ibe Kachikwu
The minister of state for petroleum resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, has dispelled the rumor that the ongoing negotiation between the Federal Government and the Niger Delta Militant has Collapsed.

Dr. Ibe Kachikwu revealed during the 2016 convocation of the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State, Kachikwu, that the government was considering other road maps that would bring permanent peace to the region.

“It (dialogue) has not collapsed, I have led that process and the president is very supportive of it. What I think the president does not want to do is to put in place same old models that have failed and which after four months, the militants will return to the creeks. We are looking at long-term models.”

The former NNPC boss added that aside the proposed open dialogue with the militants, measures have been taken to reach out to aggrieved youths in the region through ‘secondary’ means which was the reason for the relative peace experienced over in recent months.

However, the FG has announced that all amnesty programmes will end in 2017.
